Keeping Up With Google’s Algorithms
by Satish Singh
Let’s face it,
Google is always up to something when it comes to their search-engine algorithms. You could be flying high on page one today and get slapped back to page twenty tomorrow. Whether its panda, penguin, hummingbird or another wild animal they decide to introduce us to, your website should be prepared for any change.
When working with a USA SEO company, you should be sure that they exercise the proper practices to keep your website in the good graces of Google. Recently Matt Cutts, the head of Google’s webspam team, hinted at some new algorithmic changes that will soon be introduced. It is hard to say what those changes will be, but Cutts explained that Google is going to try to determine if a site is popular or is a topic of authority.
We actually have some algorithmic changes that try to figure out hey this site is the better match for something like a medical query,” Cutts said. “And I’m looking forward those rolling out because a lot of people have worked hard so that you don’t just say oh this is a well-known site therefore should match for this query, it’s this is a site that actually has some evidence that it should rank for something related to medical queries, and that’s something where we can improve the quality of the algorithms even more.”
Content is King
So what is the best way to maintain the ranking of your website? In a recent PSA, Cutts stressed the importance of body content. Many SEO companies in the USA focus their services on backlinks, meta tags, and meta descriptions. It is also important to focus their SEO services on onsite content.
Websites are being punished for not having enough content on their site or having duplicate content. Although meta descriptions and meta tags are very important for a website, website content is very important.
“If you don’t have the text, the words that will really match on the page, then it’s going to be hard for us to return that page to users,” said Cutts.
With a new algorithm that Google can roll out at any point, it is important to understand that quality content is very important in SEO. Be sure that your website has compelling, informative and most importantly, original content. Make sure you or your SEO company takes the time to focus on your onsite optimization.
Can Small Businesses Rank Higher Than Large Businesses?
Another important concern with website owners is that large businesses will rank higher than smaller businesses. Cutts has explained that this is not necessarily true. A small business website with dynamic content and more frequent updates may have the power to rank higher.
Cutts has also offered some suggestions to help smaller websites. “Think about concentrating on a smaller topic area, one niche at a time, and make sure you cover it really, really well,” he said. “Then you can build out from that smaller area until you become larger and larger.”
No matter what algorithm is used by Google and no matter how many changes they roll out, if your website has superior-quality content, you should not have a problem with your rankings.
Companies that offer SEO services in Rochester will be able to help you achieve this on your website. It is also important to make sure that your SEO company remains up-to-date with all the latest SEO news.
